UPDATE—
Planning Commission Meeting
On the Katherine Road Widening and the Colton Lee Development
When: Thursday, August 15, 2013
Where: Hall of Administration,
800 S. Victoria Avenue, Ventura, CA 93009
Time: 8:30AM
Five and half hours for the August 1st hearing was not enough to consider all the issues and comments on the Katherine Road widening. Therefore the hearing was "continued" to August 15th. Fortunately, the public comment period will remain open. If you didn't get a chance at the first hearing to comment or had to leave early and still want to speak you now have another opportunity in this "continued" meeting to do so.
We have to voice our concerns about this development to the Planning Commissioners. If we DO NOT show up in force they will think that the destruction of Katherine Road and our neighborhood is OK with us. We all know that it's definitely NOT! Although this meeting is on a work day morning and it is hard for people to take off from work, let alone travel to Ventura City, we need to show up in force again. Any special last minute notices about the hearing will go out by email and posted on the savetheknolls web site. Please check your email inbox or the website for those notices.

Katherine Road ‘walk’ Update

See the video on the Topanga Fire 2005 and the Katherine Road widening
In the rural zoned area known as Santa Susana Knolls, near Simi Valley, California, Colton Lee Development proposes to widen Katherine Road in order to win the Ventura County government's and Planning Commission's approval of Katherine Rd. as a secondary access and also gain approval for its high density development in the non-urban Knolls. This 6 minute video that was played during the Planning Commission hearing on the history of the Topanga Fire in 2005 shows how useless Katherine Rd—widened or not—would have been as a secondary access road. In fact it was a dangerous escape route during the 2005 fire and will probably be so again, regardless of whether it's widened. See the video on YouTube.

Help us keep the Knolls Informed
The HOA does not have contact info for the majority of the neighborhood. It would be helpful if you would talk to your neighbors about sending us their email address so we can add them to our neighborhood list. We keep the list private (really!) and do not share the email addresses with anyone. We also only send out information about the neighborhood – no spam. If anyone wants to join the list and receive this newsletter and other information about the neighborhood have them send an email to SusanaKnollsHoa@roadrunner.com.
The Perseid Meteor Showers this Weekend
The Perseid meteor shower will be visible during the coming week of August 6 to 14. These are annual favorites because the meteors are more visible and numerous. The peak activity will be on Aug 11 and 12 in the pre-dawn hours (i.e midnight to 4 am) For tips on watching the meteors visit the EARTHSKY website. Photo at right depicting the pre-dawn constellations in the eastern sky is courtesy of Earthsky.
