Next HOA Meeting

The next HOA meeting is the first Tuesday of June 2014 (6/3/14) at 7:00PM at the Depot (at Pass and Katherine Rds.)

Waste Management – New Contract

In our last newsletter we mentioned the new WM contract with the County and how the SKHA attended every meeting and lobbied for lower costs and increased services. Well, in addition to the small reduction in fees Knolls residents can get an additional recycle bin at no charge. So, if you are always running out of space in your recycle bin between pickups call Waste Management now and request a second bin.

Also, the Knolls is now able to dispose of hazardous waste at the City of Simi Valley events instead of traveling to Newberry Park which was how it was in the old contract. Free household hazardous waste collection events are held the 3rd Saturday of every other month. Call the HHW Appointment line at (805) 583-6321. Maximum limit per appointment/vehicle is 15 gallons or 125 pounds

Susana Knolls HOA Dues

Currently the Annual dues for the SKHA are $30 with a Senior rate of $10. Back in 2003 the annual dues were raised to $30 and the Senior rate was held at $10. Everyone is aware of the 10 year long fight – and VICTORY – we all waged against the Colton Lee Development. We were victorious in part due to the dues we had collected over the years and also the generous donations from the neighborhood. We used these funds for our attorney fees and other expenses such as mailings, fees, signs, Knolls video, etc. In addition the SKHA has expenses of neighborhood mailings, filing fees, postage, mail box, etc.

The Board feels that it is time to increase the Annual Dues from the 2003 rate to: $50 with a $20 Senior rate. We all feel that the SKHA provides a wealth of benefit to the Knolls and this increase in the Annual Dues is necessary to continue the service to the neighborhood and to help build our reserves for the future. If you break it down that is $4.16 per month and $1.66 per month for the Senior rate. A bargain to keep the Knolls the place that we all love!!

Community Garage Sale - UPDATE

(There was an incorrect date in the March Newsletter – The date for the yard/garage sale is Saturday, April 26th.)

Here are more details:

Hi Neighbors! My neighbor and I are planning a yard/garage sale on Saturday, April 26 from 7 a.m. to 12. We would like you to join us by having a sale at your house the same day. We will advertise on Craigslist and one of our husbands will put up some signs. Please add your signs to our effort, so that more people are likely to drive “all the way” to the Knolls for our garage sales. The Live Ride church on Sylvan will allow residents who don’t have a place to set up at their house to set up a table and/or tent canopy in the parking lot of the church. Call the church at ] 805-306-0042 or me — Chris McDonald at 805-522-0205— to discuss the details and to sign-up.

Knolls Community Picnic

A Knolls Community Picnic sponsored by the Live Ride church will be held on Saturday, April 12 from 11:00 to 2:00 at the Live Ride church at 6245 Sylvan Dr. There will be BBQ, jumpers for the kids, and neighbors to get to know. See you there!

Community Beautification Event

The Knolls Community Beautification Event (CBE) is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th at the Susana Park (by the Depot). This event is sponsored by the county. The CBE will allow us to get rid of large volumes of trash such as green waste, raw wood, electronic waste, and more. Toxic waste (i.e. paint) will not be accepted. Watch your US mail for the
notification notice which has additional information. In the past the CBE accepted green trash, in addition to appliance, cardboard, plastic, metal, paper, bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, water heaters. In the meantime you may want to start collecting your trashables in preparation for the event.
