SOAR – Save Open Space and Agricultural Resources

SOAR to Stop Traffic…… SOAR to Stop Sprawl……SOAR for Clean Air…… SOAR for Good Food………
SOAR is a series of voter initiatives that require a vote of the people before agricultural land or open space areas can be rezoned for development. It gives the people a vote in how development happens. It does NOT stop development, but puts the development projects to a vote of the people rather than to just a handful of City Council Members or County Supervisors. This can result in a better overall development. For more details go to: www.soarvc.org

Signature Update: Signatures for Ventura County have been submitted as well as the following cities: Fillmore, Santa Paula, Moorpark, Camarillo. Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley are still collecting signatures. Oxnard is the only city with a SOAR initiative that's coming to the ballot via City Council action, rather than through a signature drive. The council is debating whether voters should decide on extending SOAR to 2030 or 2050. There are no SOAR initiatives in Port Hueneme or Ojai.

Can you help??? We need help to gather signatures to make sure that this initiative gets on the November ballot. If we don’t get enough signatures, then SOAR fails and Simi Valley could start looking like the San Fernando Valley. I don’t know ANYONE who wants that!!! Volunteering for even a couple of hours can make a difference. If you can help, contact the HOA at susanaknollshoa@roadrunner.com

Knolls Station Update – From the Park District

The Park District expects to complete its renovation of the Knolls Station in July. Thereafter the building will be available for rentals, meetings and recreation activities. The Knolls Station will also house the District's After School Club program beginning with the start of the school year in August. The inside improvements include the installation of new cabinets, appliances, and counters in the kitchen. An HVAC system has been installed for the engine room to increase the functionality of the largest area within the building. The inside and outside of the building will be painted within the next couple of weeks; exterior colors will remain the same. The inside spaces will be configured to allow two separate simultaneous uses of the Knolls Station in the meeting room area (formerly the sleeping quarters) and in the engine room area. The outside improvements include the construction of a ramp from the park to the building, a handrail along the block wall to ensure safety and the addition of solar powered lighting in the yard. The roof of the building was also re-done. We appreciate everyone's patience. District staff performed the majority of work in between larger projects in order to keep the costs down. An open house/social will be scheduled in July.

Knolls Beautification Event

Sponsored by Waste Management and Ventura County, the annual Knolls Beautification Event will be on Saturday, May 7 at the Depot park. A notice will be sent out via US Mail specifying what items will be accepted.
